I recalled having seen a post where someone moved master and the resource database, and they couldn't get SQL Server to startup after doing so. The physical file name "E:\MSSQL\KOCSQLDEV01\Datafiles\mssqlsystemresource.ldf" may be incorrect.The log cannot be rebuilt when the primary file is read-only.File activation failure. At least, that is my understanding.In 2008 the system resource DB is treated as if it were a dll. And it solved my problem and SQL server DENALI connected and worked a great.

To move the master database is fairly simple and doesn't require a whole lot of effort to do.
