during a yum update, "running transaction test" ran indefinitly, thus I killed it then the Cannot find a valid baseurl appeared For some weird reason, the base-url was commented out (#) It is unclear how/when nsswitch.conf got changed. Product of all divisors=cube of number. I KNOW they were there. The solution was to make sure that the DNS servers listed in /etc/resolv.conf were indeed serving correctly, and bouncing the named process with the /sbin/service named restart command as root.

I started tinkering with it, decided to get a fresh copy of the livna.repo file; put that in, all was well. I think it should be possible, but I'm not interested enough to dig out an old installation disk and install it to find out. I disabled the SE just in case. Yum was fixed, and I didn't have to change a single configuration file for it.

But for those wishing to stay and play with that long unsupported release, you will have many problems when trying to install newer software that has dependencies that the old FC6 Just make sure you uncomment the baseurl so it can be visible again. My network connection has always been working and I kept on getting the error where it can't get a valid url for: core. now it's fixed......many thnx!
